2009

Okay, it is official, I am writing this on 4 January 2010 and I can declare 2009 as one of the worst year for Spawn figures collector. Since McFarlane Toys is concentrating on quality products with the new signature series targeting discerning adult collectors and a move to license Spawn out to other manufacturers, hopefully, 2010 would see a lot of different interpretations of spawns soon.

Jan 2009 MTCC McFarlane Collector's Edition: Spawn i138
Limited edition 8" resin statue with a release of 1,000 figures. When advance booking was taken in September 2008, all 1,000 were snapped up - no deposit required and that is the source of the problem. Trust apparently goes out of the window when the figure is released as a substantial number of those who placed booking refused to honour their commitment. It took them a few more months before all the stocks are cleared through.

Jun 2009 MTCC McFarlane Collector's Edition: The Beginning
Based on the promotional image released in Malibu #13 in 1992. 1,500 figures of this 8" resin statue would be released - with and without McFarlane's $15 signature. The pre-sales seem to be taking off but as of end 2009, there is no news of this figure.

What is more worrying is that there is yet any announcement on the future of the Signature Series.

Fall 2009 Series 36
Unveiled during the July 2008 SDCC is the return to the art of spawn franchise featuring: Curse of the Spawn i001, Spawn i001, Spawn i163 and a Hellspawn. Nothing on the official site yet though, looks like this is going to be cancelled too. Sigh...
