SPAWN 2

Spawn 2, dubbed "Battle Damaged Spawn" (tattered cape) is not a complicated collection, there are only two figures: the original (right of pic) and the MTCC exclusive edition (left of pic). But as part of Series 3 in August 1995, it marks several first in the World of Spawn Figures Collection.

- the first re-appearance of Al Simmons Spawn titled as "Spawn II".

- he is the first figure to do without either a mask or unmasked, featuring instead a Spider-Man inspired half-mask.

- he is attired in an all-black suit which would become de rigeur for all subsequent Spawn figures.

And he would soon inspire the ultimate "skeletons in the closet" figure in Exo-Skeleton Spawn of Series 4. Exo-Skeleton Spawn (see the guide on it) is covered with an external bones, thus the exo-skeletons but what is behind those exo-skeletal structure is a grey replica of Spawn 2 as represented by the figure on the extreme left in the above diagram.

August 1995 Series 3 Original: Spawn II
Except for the red tattered cape, this is a figure devoid of articulation - a surprise and bold move since collectors at that period prefer figures they can "play" with. (1).

There is no full masked or unmasked variations as claimed by some collectors...or that's what it is officially said. (2)

A 6-Pack including Spawn 2 that was released in 1995. Such 6-Pack was pretty common in the early days of Spawn collectibles and it is a haphazard collection of various figures.

January 1997 MTCC Series 3 Exclusive Repaint: Spawn II
As mentioned earlier, Spawn 2 and Series 3 have several "firsts", well here is another one: this is the first series not to have an official repaint series as a sequel (4). This "brown cape" Spawn 2 started life as a Japan Collectors' Toy Club edition made by Reds, a licensed franchisor of McFarlane Toys. It is subsequently introduced as a Club Exclusive's series that was released in November 1995. Several reasons were postulated as to "why" a repaint series never did materialised such as the rumour that the repainted series, with card printed in Spanish was not taken up by its Latin American's counterparts.

An anonymous collector showing a remarkable hoax that has many collectors believing in a 3rd version! The sticker "Spawn the Eternal" is from a video game.
