SPAWN i088

The lovely Halloween Spawn is reproduced in 2 offical versions.

Based on the cover of Spawn monthly series #88 “Seasons of Change” drawn by Greg Capullo and Todd McFarlane and published in October 1999.

This second prototype picture is a more accurate representation with the cape covering the figure.

October 2003 Series 24 Original: Spawn i088
Introduced under Series 24: The Classic Comic Cover I in early October 2003. I like the roaring face but unfortunately a lot of people do not approve of it.

It was all cloak and dagger stuff, is there a figure hidden under those cape?

Toy critics unanimously thought this is the best figure of Series 24, apparently two female viewers I knew thought so too. I suspect that the two female viewers show such fondness is because the figure stays so well hidden! And for once I agreed with the experts, it is also my favourite but only when it is released from the cape! I love the articulation and the grin of the unmasked version; it is such an improvement over previous unmasked Spawn, especially those raw albino head as recent as Spawn 6v2. And I simply adore the lean and mean body instead of stout and clumsy older Spawns.

The rendition of this figure is fantastic, especially the cape, in addition, it comes with a tree, an owl and a member of the scaredy-cat gang, bark bark bark. In the 2003 Best McFarlane Figures Poll, it tied with i098 for Best Pose.

I like this fellow so much that I got a whole gang of them and they are still increasing in numbers!

October 2003 Series 24 Variant: Spawn i088
This version was released as an exclusive for retailers who do not approved of the unmasked version in December 2003.

I like the cape but again, I like the figure without the cape more.

SIMILARITIES TO OTHER RARE ARTICULATED SPAWNS

With such a huge cape, one would think that it is covering something fishy and well, of course it does, it is the, pardon the pun, image of the Image 10th Anniversary Spawn and Spawn i098 (on the left and right of the picture). The limb of the i088 however is shortened to a realistic scale. Unlike i088 whose limb measured 3.5”, both Image and i098 have limbs that easily touch 3.9”. In fact, i088 has to tilt his head up to look taller standing next to these bean poles. His armour is also repainted brown instead of red.

My tribute to the 1968 US Olympians: Tommie Smith and John Carlos for their courage of convictions. Not that the Iron Lady would ever agree, she once remarked astutely that “to wear your heart on your sleeve is not a very good plan; you should wear it inside, where it functions best”! You be the judge, to decide with your heart or with your head.

“Ka-mate, ka-mate, ka-ora, ka-ora” meaning “I died, I died, I live, I live), wow, can the All Blacks haka be any more spawnesque!
