BATTLECLAD SPAWN

Two official versions of this figure. "Existing in a period of history when battles were waged with very little beyond one's bare hands, Battleclad Spawn's costume has morphed to accomodate his environment. Looking like a suit of armour, Spawn is protected from the both the elements of nature and face-to-face combat. One of the most posable figure in this collection, Battleclad Spawn has joints at the knees, hips, waist, shoulders, wrists, elbows, and necks. His two-head staff is the only weapon this warrior needs." (see back of the card)

A fully-suited up Battleclad Spawn in black-costume armour that was one of the most popular figure in the Series 6 release of August 1996.

Package aka Card Variants
Thanks to 'bonedust' from the Spawn Message Board, card collectors must look out for the following:
1. Lightning Card with No Wash on Muscles
2. Lightning Card with Black Wash on Muscles
3. Striped Card with No Peg Hole on Figure
4. Striped Card with Peg Hole on Figure

The figure's headsculpt is incredibly good, it spokes of rawness and premieval nature that befits a Spawn from an ancient age.

Without his black armour-like suit, he looks like an Atlas bodybuilding advertisement, beeseching you to throw sand at him. The body is dark red/maroon and there are claims that some came in pale red, almost pinkish. Famous QC error is the release of this figure without peg hole. As mentioned above by 'bonedust', the only no-peg hole guy is on a striped card. Unfortunately for display collector, without a peg hole, he cannot don up his armour suit. But if you got a figure with no peg hole, it apparently fetch higher resale price due to its supposed rarity, so don't open it. see End Cap February 1997 (for eg. Spawn #58).

It was claimed that some of the figures came without a mask or rather that the mask on the head remains unpainted as the above photo shows. The image is property of the now defunct spawncollectorsguide.com, well, it looks like a fake to me but if it is a fake, I love it!

November 1996 Series 6 Repaint: Battleclad Spawn
In the second version that appeared in November 1996, the figure receives a colour makeover, black armour-like suit turning tan/white while the white masks turn black. Quite a rare figure. Unlike the original version, card collector would only have one type of card here: striped.

German Collection
There are also a series of Battleclad Spawns classified as the German Collection. Again, the info kindly provided by 'bonedust' from Spawn Message Board. They consists of the following:

German Platinum Battleclad
German Gold Battleclad
German Normal Release Battleclad

Note that the above collection do not refer to the painting of the figure, it remains the same. It actually refers to the card.
