WINGS OF REDEMPTION SPAWN 1
The Wings of Redemption Spawn remains one of the favourite Spawn for many collectors since its inception in February 2002 under Series 21.
Based on the cover found in Spawn issue 77 (published October 1998). The cover drawing has Spawn in a black suit with bronze carapace and a pair of smashing angel's wings.
February 2002 Series 21 Original: Wings of Redemption Spawn
The first WOR Spawn to appear is that of Series 21 under the very well received 'Alternate Series' line. Image of the card is not mine, no surprise really since I usually tored my cards up the moment I laid hands on time. Image is courtesy of Jin119kg's Collection.
The colouration was really bland, so one can only surmise that the popularity has obviously got to do with the wings. The very statuesque and stately posture of this figure however does make for great custom.
I thought that the pre-painted WOR Spawn looks better than the greyish original, in fact, with a dab of bronze on the carapace, this figure would resemble the cover on #77 better than the original figure.
Most pre-production prototypes or samples are rare but this figure is one of the most commonest seen in the market and distributed widely among friends.
The figures are so quickly removed from the mould that many of them still spot plastics that were never trimmed.
April 2003 Reborn Series 1: Wings of Redemption Spawn
The repainted version was released in April 2003 under Reborn Series. This was a rather poor chase of a superb figure; configured with bat wings instead of the original angelic wings, it was introduced to lukewarm response...
...proving our point that it is the wings that make this figure so popular.
September 2004 Supersize Series 4: Wings of Redemption Spawn
From the 4th supersize series in September 2004, the 12” WOR Spawn with a more darker repaint as compared to the original.
Giving you a perspective of how much larger the supersize figure is...

April 2006 Trading Series 1
A 3" replica of Wings of Redemption Spawn was released in April 2006 as part of the Trading Series 1. The original bears the likeness of the regular-sized figure, the repaint has red wings and the exclusive is in gold-washed.
SPAWN ARMAGGEDDON
In the Spawn armaggeddon story-arc starting from Spawn #150, we see more variations of Spawn with wings.
In October 2007, we learned through the Secret Files of 'Adventures of Spawn' that there is a Wings of Redemption Spawn who is a cousin of the Redeemer. He is one of the nine Spawns before Spawn X.
Several customised supersize WOR Spawns were made in Mexico before the Supersize Series was launched. The one on the left is the earlier version and despite paying a very generous amount for it (plus shipping), mine failed to arrive, a pox on the seller. Fortunately 'spawn & wanda' from the spawn board is more trustworthy. A second version, centre and right (images from eBay) were pretty common too. An eBay seller described it as a 14" Angel of Death and that only 100 were made! Only?
None of them however can hold a candle to this awesome statue made by Mon. See more of Mon works here.
WINGS OF REDEMPTION SPAWN 2
June 2008 Series 34 Original: Wings of Redemption Spawn 2
The Series 34 is titled Spawn Classics and released in June 2008. The second edition of Wings of Redemption Spawn has not been as joyously received as the first edition - it is smaller and just lack the oomph of the first. And yes, the beautiful image of WOR 2 in the introduction is by D. Evans (aka Ocelot as he is known in the Spawn Message Board). You can check out more images in his blog.
