KUBRICK SPAWN

Kubrick Spawns are cutesy distorted figures produced by Medicom Toys under their very popular Kubrick line. This line create block-style figures which are representation of characters from popular medium. The Kubrick Spawns were originally slated for release in January 2007. Production delay eventually seen it distributed widely only in June 2007.

Distorted from the original, there are 5 Spawn figures and they are not packed evenly, some versions are more common than others, see list at the bottom of page.

A distorted copy of the original Spawn (Dec 1994 Series 1 Original). This is the most COMMON Kubrick Spawn figure available even more common than the peripheral figures. For example, if you buy a case outright, you have a 12.5% of landing a Grey Violator which is the second most common figure but this Black Masked Kubrick Spawn? A whopping 25% possibility! Every 10 figures made in the factory, 4 are dedicated to the making of this figure.

May 2007 Medicom Licensed Series Unmasked Version

A distorted copy of ??? He is in black suit and he is unmasked and logically, if he is a repaint as portrayed in the early promo, he should be a copy of January 1995 Series 1 Repaint...nah. With that charred head, he is more akin to June 1996 Retail Exclusive Black Wormhead Spawn and he is not a repaint in the traditional sense. And his stitch goes all the way back of his head!

Collectors who saw the early promo thought that this is the repaint edition and should be rather common were royally "surprised" to learn that this is no ordinary repaint. As the dust settled, it was revealed that your chances of landing him is 1.38 in every 100 packages you examined. Theoretically, if every box is going to cost you US$10, you got to spend US$1000 before landing one, so those eBay price is pretty decent.

If collectors were initially led to believe that the Unmasked Version above is simply a repaint and shouldn't be that rare, how did they managed to contain their excitement when it was learnt that a Blue Masked Version is available and that it is a copy of the April 1994 Diamond Exclusive Spawn. Alas, it was not to be, the chances of you hitting one is 5.55% and no surprise, prices started to fall.

Again, back during the jurassic age of Kubrick Spawn collection, many of us thought that the Gold-Washed Version is the holy grail, the rarest of the rare. Well, it is rare but it is actually on equal footing with the Unmasked Version. If there are 20,000 boxes of this series unloaded into the market, you should be able to spot 134 of this copy out there.

And finally, we arrive at the Necroplasm Version, a copy of September 1997 MTCC Exclusive Necroplasm Spawn. This is a figure exclusive to Blister, a huge toy store in Japan. The exclusive was meant to be released after hubris set in with the Kubrick Spawn series that was originally planned in January. April arrives and Blister celebrated their 2nd Anniversary and the regular series is still not in the market, thus this version is theoretically the first Kubrick Spawn figure in the series! And if you are bewitched by the word 'exclusive', be forewarned that there are an estimated 1,500 of them out there.

Following are the chances of obtaining the above figure from each case as worked out by knut.com. Note that the Blister Exclusive figures are not included in the calculation.
