On February 28th, 2006, IGN.com published an article titled 'Batman and Spawn Meet Again: DC and McFarlane Strike a Surprise Deal'.
"DC Comics today announced a partnership with McFarlane Toys and Image Comics to release a prestige format one-shot featuring Batman and Todd McFarlane's Spawn. In conjunction with the 48-page comic, DC Direct, DC Comics' toy and collectibles brand, will join forces with McFarlane Toys to create a deluxe, two-figure statue commemorating this historic crossover. Both items are slated to hit stores in December."
The announcement goes on to announce that this "will mark the second meeting between McFarlane's supernatural avenger, Spawn and DC Comics' iconic hero, Batman..." and "the pairing of the two comic book powerhouses should please fans." Spawn.com did make a similar announcement, a few days later on March 1st, 2006.
Well, 2006 is gone, so is 2007 and 2008. The statue was off the mark by a few months but it did circulate in eBay by June 2007. The 48-page comic however has yet to see daylight. This crossover is not the second, it is the THIRD MEETING between Spawn and Batman; "Red Scarce" and "War Devil" were the previous two. And if online critics are to be believed - far from being a crowd pleaser, Batman fans really disliked having a crossover with Spawn!
June 2007 DC Direct Exclusive: Spawn and Batman
The unpainted sculpt on display from diamondgalleries.com.
And the beautiful finish for Spawn.
It is a 2-figure set afterall and we must not forget that there is a Batman in the display.
But let's be honest, in this blog, Spawn rules.
