This Arse nal of Doom Spawn figure is a duplicate of the unmasked Spawn IV. He gets a plastic base but lost the impressive scarf and eye-scope. The difference is a matter of accessories and not permanent parts or paints, thus display collector's discretion is advised. Incidentally this US’s Toys R Us Exclusive is the fourth and last Spawn figure to be housed in a display case.

August 2000 Series 17 Original: Spawn V
Series 17 aka Classic Series claim to reintroduce Spawn…akin to modern day parlance of Reborn. Although classified as a reintroduction of the classic lineup, Spawn is titled Spawn V (the earlier II, III and IV are not reintroduction?). This very statuesque Spawn V stands on a brown base and there is only one edition.
August 2000 Series 17 Original: Medieval Spawn II

Without the base, you cannot tell the two versions apart. Ordinarily I would not consider this a unique figure as it is differentiated by the base but in this case, the base and the figure is one, the figure cannot be displayed without the base.
August 2000 Japan MFS Exclusive: Mandarin Spawn
One of the most sought-after figure in Spawndom, the Black Mandarin, made under license by Cult Works of Japan. The figure is first released at the 2000 McFarlane Figures Show in Japan organised by Epoch, the local distributor. It was later adopted by MTCC and released in greater numbers under its club banner. McFarlane Toys said it is possible that there is a typo in the spawn.com checklist's which indicate release date of their Black Mandarin as January 1999.
The Japanese edition is by far the more "in-demand" edition, both because of its first appearance and that there are less of them. You can differentiate the Japanese version from the MTCC version through the stickers.
October 2000 Supersize 3:Mandarin Spawn
The third super size edition series featured the popular Mandarin Spawn in blue. Exclusive in the US to Toys R Us but widely available worldwide. It has a new teal blue and burnt orange paint scheme. Display image is mine and card image from Jin119kg's Collection.
