October 2005 Series 28 Original Boxset: Spawn vs Urizen
"Spawn vs Urizen" is a box set that appeared in Series 28 of October 2005 and titled "Regenerated". All the figures in this series are regenerated from prior figures, eg Mandarin Spawn, Commando Spawn etc. However, I don't remember there having another 2-pack called Spawn vs Urizen.

In this box set depicting the battle between Spawn and Urizen (image from spawn.com), Spawn is dwarfed by the huge Urizen which stands at 8" while he is only 2".

At only two inches in height, this is the smallest official Spawn figure yet.

The battle diorama is inspired by the art found inside Spawn issue #96 (June 2000).

MORE ABOUT URIZEN
Urizen is inspired by the character of the same name found in William Blake's The Book of Urizen written in 1794. William Blake (1727-1827) was an English poet, painter and printmaker. He lived in near poverty and died unrecognised. Today, however, Blake is acclaimed as one of England's great figures of art and literature and one of the most inspired and original painters of his time.

The most famous of Blake's lyrical poems is Auguries of Innocence, with its memorable opening stanza:

To see a World in a Grain of Sand

And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,

Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand

And Eternity in an hour.

His other famous creations - Urizen may not be as memorable as the rhyme above but he is regarded as "one of Blake's most interesting and powerful creation. The Book of Urizen represent a parody of the Book of Genesis, in which the righteous figure of God is replaced by that of Urizen, the "dark power" and obstacle to spiritual life." - Courier Dover Publication -

Even though the quote in issue #96 where Urizen marks his first appearance is from The Book of Urizen, the image however is definitely not!

Urizen as envisaged by William Blake is that of an old man with long flowing beard. At the bottom of the image, you can see the 1794 prediction that Adam Lambert would win American Idol 2009...well of course his prediction failed to consider the Allenation :)

Frankly, Spawn would find a more interesting and fearsome looking enemy in the Great Red Dragon, another of Blake's famous albeit posthumous creation.
